Saxophonist Rory Lynch is an active participant in the Saskatoon jazz scene. His current creative projects include leading a quartet featuring original works, and the genre-bending Prairie Roots Ensemble. As a sideman, he has performed or recorded with the Saskatoon Jazz Orchestra, the Steadies, the Whisky Jerks, Sons of Django, and Joseph Ashong. Rory is proud to play Black music on Treaty 6 territory.
Rory completed his formal education at the University of Saskatchewan where he focused on jazz studies under the direction of Dean McNeill. He has also studied with saxophonists Mark DeJong, Tara Davidson, and Kelly Jefferson. His current teacher is Trent Reschney.
The Rory Lynch Quartet is a high-energy ensemble with a focus on group interplay and original compositions. Their performances are driven by a collective sense of adventure and risk; personal contributions from each member fuse together to create a compelling soundscape.
