LOWEST ACOUSTIC INSTRUMENTS OF SASKATCHEWAN

The Strata Festival of New Music has got its hands on the lowest acoustic instruments in Saskatchewan and has commissioned three new works from Sask composers for the occasion.  These fantastic new works, composed for Pipe Organ, Bass Saxophone, Contrabass Bassoon, Contrabass Clarinet, Double Bass, BBb Tuba and Bass Trombone, cast a new light on these instruments and their unique personalities.

to See

The concert From See to Sound to See features music exploring the relationship between visual and aural art.  Visual artists created works inspired by musical compositions, and composers created works inspired by the same artist’s work.  Paired composers and artists also choose an abstract emotion and created works independently that are presented jointly.  The music will be performed by pianist, Sylvia Shadick-Taylor with projected images of the artwork.  Originally from Saskatoon, Sylvia, is a professional pianist, now living in Edmonton, who specializes in Canadian contemporary repertoire.

Symposium

The Strata Festival of New Music is pleased to announce the return of the Strata Festival Online Student Composer Symposium!  Now in its second year, the program has been expanded to include a singer/songwriter and classical stream.  From May 27th – 30th students have the opportunity to study and create with some of Canada’s best and busiest players and composers.  Over the course of the Symposium, students will create a piece of music that is recorded by professional musicians in Saskatoon, and premiered online during the 2021 Strata Festival on June 5th at 7pm.
